Ravinder Kaul and Mushtaq Kak to attend Global Culture Summit at Abu Dhabi

JAMMU: Internationally acclaimed Cultural Critic Ravinder Kaul and this year's Sangeet Natak Akademi Award winning theatre director Mushtaq Kak will attend Global Culture Summit at Abu Dhabi from April 9 to April 13, 2017. The event is being hosted by Abu Dhabi Tourism & Culture Authority and presented in conjunction with publishers of Foreign Policy Magazine The FP Group, Washington and TCP Ventures, New York.The Culture Summit is a high-level international meet that will bring together leaders from the government, the arts, and the media to address the role culture can play in addressing some of the great challenges of our time. The Summit will seek to bring together experts representing almost every country in the world to discuss common interests, create new collaborations and address in concrete ways challenges ranging from the preservation of cultural heritage to understanding the disruptions likely to be associated with emerging technologies, from bringing arts education to the young to finding new ways to finance the arts, from combating threats like extremism to developing public policies that promote creativity and social development. A member of International Association of Theatre Critics, Ravinder Kaul has participated in over a dozen Sessions of United Nations Commission and Sub Commission for Human Rights at Geneva and spoken strongly about preservation of cultural rights of the people across the globe. He has attended the Conferences of International Association of Theatre Critics at Beijing (China) in 2007, Sofia (Bulgaria) in 2008 and Yerevan (Armenia) in 2010. He has also attended Europe Theatre Prize Festivals, showcasing the best of European theatre, at Thessaloniki (Greece) in 2008, Wroclaw (Poland) in 2009 and St. Petersburg (Russia) in 2011. He has participated in International Music Festival organised by East Siberian State Academy of Culture and Arts at Ulan Ude (Republic of Buryatia, Russian Federation) in 2007. He has attended 'Panj Pani Theatre Festival' organised by Ajoka Theatre at Alhamra, Lahore in 2005.
He has been regularly writing for regional, national and international newspapers and magazines since 1980. He has also interviewed luminaries of art, music, theatre and literature for "Guftagu" programme of Zee Kashmir Channel and for the print media. "Shrines and Pilgrimages of Kashmir", a documentary directed by him for Department of Culture, Government of India, was selected by Films Division for screening at International Film Festivals in 2007.Mushtaq Kak, the recipient of this year's Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, the country's highest award in the field of performing arts, has directed more than 100 plays.
He is the Director of renowned Amateur Theatre Group. He has been Artistic Director of Shri Ram Centre for Performing Arts, one of the most prestigious theatre institutions and repertories of the country, for nine years. He is the recipient of Mahindra and Mahindra Award for Excellence in Theatre. His plays 'Mahabrahman', 'Alladad', 'Kasturi Mrig' and 'Chekhov in My Life' were judged best plays of Delhi by Sahitya Kala Parishad, New Delhi for four consecutive years. One of his super hit plays has been 'Dilli-6' based on William Shakespeare's play 'Two Gentlemen of Verona'. He has received Best Director Award for plays 'Andha Yug', 'Ashad Ka Ek Din' and 'Pratibimb' from J & K Academy of Art Culture & Languages. Currently, his play 'Ishq Malangi' has been creating waves at national and international theatre festivals across the country. He has been guest faculty at various theatre departments of several well known Universities. He has also conducted theatre workshops for National School of Drama. Mushtaq has received both Junior as well as Senior Fellowship Awards from Department of Culture, Ministry of Human Resource Development, New Delhi. Mushtaq Kak has acted in feature films 'Hijack', 'Sikandar', 'Shahid', `Amal`, 'Kai Po Che', 'Mausam', 'Vishwaroopam-I' , 'Vishwaroopam-II', 'Dhishoom', 'M.S.Dhoni' and 'Geetiyan'. He has produced and directed tele-serials and tele-films for DD National, DD Kashir and DD Urdu. He has also produced and directed Six Dogri tele-films under the category of 'Indian Classic Films' (Katha Sarita) for Doordarshan. Mushtaq Kak is one among the Bollywood celebrities who was invited to the Indian Panorama Film Festival held in Shillong last year.
